Raukaua edgerleyi is a small tree with distinctive dark green and very glossy leaves. As in all Raukaua species there is joint where the leaf stalk joins the leaf blade. The juvenile phase may last 10 or more years and has leaves consisting of three leaflets. In very young plants these leaflets are deeply cut or lobed but in older juveniles, they are not cut. Named after British plant collector and horticulturist, John Edgerley (1814-1849) who settled in Auckland.
An endemic species found throughout New Zealand.
