Dichelodontium nitidens forms pale, flat mats of 1-2 cm long branching stems. Leaves are overlapping and are more or less oblong with a rounded apex. The inner peristome is lacking in this genus.
Endemic, widespread in the northern half of the North Island and in the South Island, on bark.
