Syntrichia antarctica is a small moss that forms loose tufts. The 3-5 mm long leaves have a distinctive red vein (nerve) and a long, slightly toothed rather than smooth hair point. Formerly known as Tortula princeps.
Widespread in New Zealand on earth, rock and bark. One of the few mosses that will grow on rocks close to the sea.
