Barbula calycina is a yellow-brown moss that forms cushions up to 10 mm high. The leaves are spreading, up to 2 mm in length and spirally twisted when dry. The capsule stalks (setae) are unusually tall being up to 40 mm in height.
Widespread in New Zealand on exposed rock, walls and dry earth.
