Triquetrella papillata has sprawling and irregularly branched shoots with red stems and is the only moss in New Zealand to have leaves arranged in three similar rows. The leaves have a prominent nerve (vein) and are covered with papillae (small protrusions).
Found throughout New Zealand in exposed surfaces such as sandy soil and grassland.
