Plagiomnium novae-zealandiae has straggly prostrate stems with elliptic to oblong leaves up to 7 mm long that are flattened to the substrate. A very different, short and erect stem with radially arranged leaves is formed during reproduction. Formerly Mnium rostratum.
Widespread in New Zealand in forest on wet rock and stream banks.
