Holomitrium perichaetiale is a robust moss with leaves tapering from a broad base into a long, narrow upper portion. When dry, these leaves are strongly curled. The capsule stalk (seta) is tightly sheathed by bracts (perichaetial bracts) that extend up for about one-third of the seta length. The capsule narrows above to a rather small mouth.
Widespread in New Zealand on bark or rock.
