Dicranella vaginata is a small, bright yellow-green moss forming dense clumps of erect stems bearing wide-spreading leaves which sheath or clasp the stem at their base. The slightly concave leaves are long and tapering with a stout costa (vein) and toothed margins at the tip.
Found throughout the North Island and in western regions of the South Island on stream margins and moist forest.
