Dicnemon calycinum forms dense patches consisting of creeping, many-branched stems bearing short erect branches with close set leaves. A tubular sheath (perichaetial bracts) extends up the length of the seta stalk ending in a fine point that sometimes overtops the capsule.
Widespread in New Zealand as an epiphyte on trunks and branches.
