Brachythecium rutabulum is a creeping moss with green, yellow-green or dull green leaves. Stem leaves are oval and graduallly or abruptly narrowed to a sharp tip. Leaves on branches are linear to lanceolate. Leaf margins have fine teeth (denticulate) which are more prominant on branch leaves.
Widespread in New Zealand occupying a wide range of habitats and substrates.
