Acromastigum colensoanum has a delicate and soft, dichotomously branching stem (terminally divided into two equal branches) and is easily recognized by its pale grass-green colour. Leaves are 2-lobed and the underleaves are 3-lobed.
Common in wet forest throughout New Zealand on logs, tree trunks and soil but often as scattered stems.
