Chandonanthus squarrosus is a large liverwort that forms dense clumps of erect shoots often with a distinctive golden brown colour. Leaves are bifid (divided into two) and spreading, giving the stems a distinctive 4-angled appearance. Underleaves are large and also bifid.
Found in moist forest on branches to exposed rock and lava flows throughout New Zealand.
